Best Dressed Contest
As previous attendees well know, wearing frayed shorts and a worn out T-shirt will not get you far at the Virginia Gold Cup. True Gold Cup connoisseurs take this as an opportunity to bring out their finest spring togs and dress to impress. Seersucker suits, madras sportcoats, and crisp linen dresses accessorized with charming hats are all foundand encouragedat University Row, the place to be at the Virginia Gold Cup. Here high horse country fashion meets hip DC urbanites in an annual inauguration of the outdoor social season. Gold Cup brings together horse racing, fine Southern beverages, and the unmistakable plumage of the social mating crowd. How better to catch the eye of a woman than with your sporty Nantucket red trousers? What better way to bring in the beaux with a sweet sundress or sassy wide brim hat? He'll have to get close to see those baby blues. Feeling ambitious? Not content to gather just one or two admirers? Set your sights high, and you may be selected to participate in the Best Dressed contest! Several judges from Macy's Ballston and the AEA will be monitoring the crowd during the early part of the day, presenting special passes to their selected favorites. At 2:00pm, we will hold a contest of those finalists in the terrace of North Rail 122. Be sure to bring your friends to the finale! Clapping, whistling, and overall crowd input are top factors in selecting the winnersone male and one female. Happy planning, and we look forward to checking you out at Gold Cup! * * * Think you have what it takes to be a judge for the Best Dressed contests? E-mail us and let us know. |
